Intramural Tournament
Ripple Effect Martial Arts is thrilled to sponsor an intramural tournament on September 28, 2024. We invite everyone to join us for this exceptional training opportunity!
Little Ripples
We are offering a Little Ripples division for children ages 3-7, competition will include forms & ribbon sparring! For this age group, headgear and mouthpieces are required for ribbon sparring. All competitors will receive a participation trophy.
Gup and Dans
All gup and dan divisions will consist of 4 competitions: open hand forms, weapon forms, non-contact sparring, and contact sparring. Participants competing in sparring must have complete protective gear, including headgear, hand and foot protection, mouthpieces, and cups for males. We will have an optional contact sparring division. For this division, students MUST have chest protectors in addition to all other sparring gear. All gear is available for purchase through your school, quantities are limited.
You are eligible to compete in all categories you have trained in and are prepared for. Please talk with your instructor if you have questions. As this is an OPEN tournament, there are no limitations on which forms you are permitted to compete with, and it is based on your instructor’s approval.
Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and co-3rd in each category.
Creativity Division
The Creativity Division is a very unique opportunity! You can work with a team, choose music, wear costumes, do breaking/weapons! Use your imagination! The cost to compete in this division is an additional $10, per person. This is a great opportunity to get your creative juices flowing and work with other students to put on a show! You are responsible for any cleanup after this division as well as supplying your own wood, holders, music, etc.
There is a maximum time limit of 3 minutes for each performance.
The initial judging for this division will take place over video submission! Submit a video of your performance here, where our team of judges will review ALL submissions and choose the TOP groups to compete AT the tournament.
Trophies will be awarded for the creativity division.

Board Breaking
We are SO EXCITING to announce that we are adding a breaking division to our tournament this year!
The Board Breaking Division will be on Friday, September 27 at 6:30pm.
This division is ONLY for red belts and above.
Each competitor is permitted 2 breaking stations, with 2 boards. Each competitor will be given only 2 attempts at each break.
Judging will be based on: skill, power, difficulty of break, and overall performance! This division is optional and will be an additional $20 (boards will be provided).
Grand Champion
The first-place winner in open-hand forms from each black belt division will compete in a Grand Champion Division during the Half Time Performance!
Cup Winners
An Overall Champion will be awarded to the competitors with the top points overall in the following categories: Gup Female, Gup Male, Dan Female, Dan Male. This will be announced at the end of the final division!
Judging & Scorekeeping
You must be trained to judge, scorekeep, or timekeep; you also must be able to volunteer for the full day. All volunteers in these roles are required to attend a mandatory training session on Friday, September 27 @5:45pm.
Please wear you special Judge’s shirt the day-of along with your uniform pants and belt.
Opportunities will be assigned based on need.

5:45pm – Mandatory Judges & Scorekeeper Training (please plan to stay through the board-breaking division)
6:30pm – Board Breaking
Saturday, September 28
7:30am – Doors open
8am – Judges pre-brief
8:30am – Black Belt Competition Begins! EVERYONE IS INVITED TO COME WATCH! (arrive by 8am, expect to finish around 3pm)
9:30am – Arrival time for Brown-Blue Belt divisions
10:00am – Arrival time for Little Ripples
11:15am – Arrival time for White, White/Orange, Orange, Orange with White Stripe, Green, Green with White Stripe
11:30am – HALF TIME SHOW! The top finalists in the creativity division will compete, the top black belt competitors will compete for the grand champion title, our Demo team will perform, and the Board Break Champions will perform—you WON’T want to miss these performances!
Check-In
Please do NOT enter through the lobby, as normal. When you arrive, please enter through the white gate. One of our program directors will be there to get you checked in and show you where the warm-up area will be!
